In an after-war letter from C. Thomas Wein, memories of the horrors of war are very evident:
"I remember almost vomiting when we saw how young the Germans were that we killed at a road-block late in the war. This was followed shortly by the death, by sniper, of a guy named Smith, so I got some forced perspective back rather rapidly."
