Lt. Richard Swope
HQ Company, 2nd Battalion., 318th Infantry Regiment

Lt. Richard Swope trained with the division Camp Forrest, Desert Training, Tennessee Maneuvers as an enlisted man. He was a Staff Sergeant when he arrived in Europe. He was attached to the 4th Armored going into Bastogne to relieve the 101st Airborne Division encircled there during the Battle of the Bulge. He received a battlefield commission making him an officer. Lt. Swope was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Silver Star, Bronze Star, 2 Purple Hearts, ETO- 4 Battle Stars, Good Conduct, and the WW II Victory medal. As a civilian, Richard Swope worked as a hardware store merchant in Mt. Penn, PA until his death in 1997. His hobby was Golf.
