I don't normally endorse or link to charities on my website. Anyone who knows me well, knows that I am very gun-shy about donating to charities who pay their CEO's hundreds of thousands per year in salaries. Therefore, I only give where I KNOW that what little charity I can afford gets to where it is needed, without some fat-cat CEO taking his cut off the top. However, thanks to a dear friend, I have become aware of a charity that I will endorse, and encourage everyone I know to get involved with. The charity in question is called "AnySoldier.com". You'll note that they aren't asking you to send them donations, unless you just want to help keep their website going. Their mission is to get us to send letters and care packages to US Service Men and Women directly. The group was started by a soldier and his parents, and their website will explain all of that. Even if you can't send a package, send a letter, or ten. Whatever you can manage. And best of all, you get to pick who will receive your letter or care packages. Read the entire website before acting. These brave men and women are out there protecting us in some awful, God-forsaken places. They deserve to be reminded that we care, and that we support them. Look into your hearts and then do something that will make them, and you feel much better! Be sure to say a prayer for our troops too! They could use God's help as well as ours! |
Webmaster Gary Gocek, son of veteran Julian Gocek created this site to record the history of and memorialize the brave men who served in the 897th and 3562nd Ordnance Heavy Automotive Maintenance Companies from 1941 to 1945. |
