Advance To The Saar

 

From the S-2 Journal: November 4;

 

"Harassing artillery and mortar fire received during period."

 

From the "D" Company Diary: 5 November;

 

"Received plan from 319th Infantry of attack on D-Day.  We are supposed to get 24hr. notice.  319th Infantry is to cross river at Agoncourt and attack Aulonis and Craincourt.  The company has two 105's with Lt. Marsh attached, and the Mortar Platoon also.  Several rounds fell in our bivouac area(Jean de Lincourt)."

 

From the Headquarters Company Diary: 6 November;

 

"Assault Gun Platoon broken up into sections with "A", "B" and "C" Companies.  Mortar Platoon attached to Company "D".  Overhead section and Recon. Platoon still in area east of Vile Au Val.  Weather cloudy with rain."

 

From the S-2 Journal: November 7;

 

"Harassing artillery and mortar fire received during period."

 

From the "D" Company Diary: 7 November;

 

"D-Day was to be the 8th.  1st Battalion, 319th Infantry, was to be the assault battalion.  All plans made, everybody set."
